I love listening to music. I don’t remember the exact number, but Spotify let me know that I was in the top percentage of listeners for the year 2022. I use music to help me get through the day and stay on task, whether its at the gym, in the car, walking to class, or doing homework, I have music playing at all times. In the past few months I have been expanding my taste in music from just listening to rap, and these have been my top listened to songs from the past 4 weeks according to statsforspotify.com. I am not a music critic, and may have hard time explaining why I like the song other than it sounds great, but the are my current top songs.

1. Suicide Mission – Destroy Lonely

This song hasn’t officially been released, but someone has uploaded the leaked audio to Spotify, which is how I’ve been listening to it. The artist, Destroy Lonely, is an underground rapper, but this song is considered to be post punk. The vibe of this song is in my opinion very chill, and is very relaxing.

Favorite lyric: “I spent a long time feelin’ so misunderstood
And that shit they said I wouldn’t do, I showed them I would“

2. 1000 Blunts – $uicideboy$

The album this song was released on, came out in the middle of the summer in 2022 and immediately became my favorite on the album. $uicideboy$ are my favorite artists and have been for the past few years. Their discography is very diverse and each new album they release sounds different than the last. The way the duo uses autotune in this song is phenomenal and makes the song sound that much better.

Favorite lyric: “I can’t escape my mind it’s like I’m doing time, all the time, exhausted, lost it”

3. Violent Crimes – Kanye West

This song is a few years old now but only recently have I fallen in love with it again. This song feels very comforting as you can easily tell it was written about Kanye’s daughters. The song also shows his worries about his daughter’s growing up, and how he views women differently now that he has daughters.

Favorite lyric: “Don’t you grow up in a hurry, your mom’ll be worried, aw
It was all part of the story, even the scary nights“

4. Andrea – Bad Bunny

Bad Bunny is one of the only artists I enjoy that make music in Spanish. The autotune in this song sound very angelic and relaxing. This is a song that I would listen to driving on a late night with the windows open (but not in this weather). Although this album came out in May of 2022, it wasn’t until this past month that I fell in love with this song.

Favorite lyric: “No quiero que nadie me diga lo que yo tengo que hacer”

Translation: “I don’t want anybody to tell me what I have to do”

5. Spend the money – Fousheé, Lil Uzi Vert

I didn’t know about this song until last week and it is already on my top 5 songs listened to in the past 4 weeks. This is a Alternative/Indie song, which is a genre that I have never explored. I don’t know how to put why I like this song into words, but it’s a new sound that will definitely spend more time listening to.
